Every figure on this page is computed from the inputs you enter, by the method stated below it. The only constants HeadcountDesk supplies are the published federal payroll tax rates and the overtime multiplier, each cited where it is used. The defaults are a worked example to replace with your own.

New hire onboarding survey questions are asked twice, and the two sets have different jobs: at the end of week one, did the practical machine work, the equipment ready, the introductions made, a person to ask, the first task real; and at the end of month one, is the job the one described, is the training landing, what nearly made you quit. Each answer feeds a checklist fix, or the survey is theatre. The onboarding checklist on this site carries both check-ins, free and without an account; HeadcountDesk Pro sends them and files the answers.

Week one: the machinery questions

Was your equipment ready on day one? Did you know where to go and who would meet you? Do you have one person you can ask anything? Was your first task real work? Each no is a checklist item that failed and an owner to tell.

Month one: the job questions

Is the job what the posting and the interviews described? Which part of the training has not landed? What has been hardest that nobody warned you about? What nearly made you look elsewhere? These answers are retention data, and they only come if someone asks.

Ask so the answer is usable

Few questions, a scale plus a free-text line each, answered to a named person rather than a void, with the promise that a specific thing changes. The second-best predictor of honest answers is what happened after the last survey.

Close the loop on the list

Every recurring failure becomes a permanent checklist change: the license ordered earlier, the introduction scheduled, the training rewritten. Pro routes the answers to the item's owner. From the vendors' own pricing pages: Homebase lists Essentials at $24 per location per month billed annually or $30 monthly, with a free Basic plan for one location of up to ten employees; BambooHR lists Core at $10 and Pro at $17 per employee per month; Deputy lists Core at $6.50 per user per month. HeadcountDesk Pro is $24 a month per location.
