Every figure on this page is computed from the inputs you enter, by the method stated below it. The only constants HeadcountDesk supplies are the published federal payroll tax rates and the overtime multiplier, each cited where it is used. The defaults are a worked example to replace with your own.
Lazy employees is usually the wrong diagnosis and always the wrong starting point. The right one is the record: the goals set and whether they were hit, the timesheets, the reviews, and whether the person was told what was expected and given what they needed to do it. Where the record shows the work was not done, the response is the performance conversation, the agreed change, the date and the discipline procedure if it repeats. The review template on this site scores the goals, free and without an account; HeadcountDesk Pro keeps the record.

Check the expectations were set
Goals written, weighted, dated and agreed; a manager who never set them has no basis for the complaint. The free review template on this site is where they are set.
Read the record, not the impression
Goals hit or missed, the timesheets, the reviews. The number is what the conversation is about; the adjective is not.
The conversation and the agreement
The gap stated plainly, the employee heard, the change and the date agreed, the note filed. Often the cause is unclear work, missing tools or a manager who is not available.
If it repeats
The discipline procedure the handbook sets, step by step, documented. The free employee handbook template on this site has the section; Pro keeps every step. From the vendors' own pricing pages: Homebase lists Essentials at $24 per location per month billed annually or $30 monthly, with a free Basic plan for one location of up to ten employees; BambooHR lists Core at $10 and Pro at $17 per employee per month; Deputy lists Core at $6.50 per user per month. HeadcountDesk Pro is $24 a month per location.
Lazy employees: common questions
How do I deal with a lazy employee?
Set the goals if they were not set, read the record, have the conversation about the gap, agree the change, and follow the discipline procedure if it repeats.
Can I dismiss someone for laziness?
For a documented failure to meet agreed expectations after the procedure has been followed, under the handbook's steps. Not for an adjective.
Is the review template free?
Yes, with no account. Pro keeps the record.
